Baccarat: compare the Player and Banker hands

Baccarat compares two hands named Player and Banker, with the aim of finishing closest to nine. Its short score system is easy to recognise, but drawing rules and version-specific conditions still matter. Winbaji explains the basic totals with a worked example rather than presenting previous results as predictions.

Values that determine the total

The displayed card ranks are converted into baccarat points before the two hands are compared.

Card points

An ace counts as one. Cards two through nine count at face value; tens and face cards count as zero.

The final digit

When card values total ten or more, retain only the units digit. A nine and a six therefore make five, not fifteen.

A natural eight or nine

An initial two-card total of eight or nine is a natural. The initial hands are checked before ordinary third-card rules are considered.

Follow a hand in order

  1. Read both opening hands

Calculate Player and Banker totals using baccarat values. Check for an initial natural.

  2. Apply the drawing rules

When there is no natural, fixed rules determine whether another card is drawn. It is not an unrestricted player choice.

  3. Compare the final totals

The hand closest to nine wins; equal final totals are a tie. Any payment conditions depend on the particular selection and table variant.

A worked two-hand example

Imagine Player receives a nine and a six. Their sum is fifteen, so the baccarat total is five. Banker receives a four and a four, producing eight. The numbers written on the cards and the final baccarat score therefore need to be distinguished.

Banker's opening eight is a natural. Under the basic rule, no further cards are drawn in this example, and Banker beats Player's five. This demonstrates the scoring sequence without needing to reproduce an incomplete third-card chart.

When neither opening hand is a natural, drawing rules become more detailed. Consult the full rules of the actual table rather than guessing from one example. Commission, tie payments, side selections and no-commission variants can differ and should be read separately.

A roadmap records completed hands

A baccarat roadmap arranges past outcomes into a visual history. It can help locate earlier results, but a run of Player or Banker outcomes does not establish the next hand's result. Changing an amount cannot make that history predictive.

Player and Banker are hand labels, not claims about a visitor's relationship with a dealer or another person. Before interpreting a result, check the table variant, round reference and final recorded status. Keep account identifiers out of shared screenshots.

Questions about baccarat

What is a king worth?

Face cards, including kings, count as zero points in baccarat.

What is a nine plus a six?

The sum is fifteen, so the baccarat total is five: only the units digit is used.

Can I choose to draw any third card?

The basic game uses fixed drawing rules. Read the complete table rules rather than applying a free choice.

Does a Banker streak predict another Banker result?

No. A recorded sequence describes earlier hands and does not make the next result certain.
